Format Description of the Scientific Sessions

Opening Lecture
The Opening Lecture will be held during the Opening Ceremony on 28 June 2009.

Plenary Lectures
Plenary Lectures are 45-minute sessions held by renowned experts. The speakers have been chosen from among the most prominent researchers in the respective field.

Symposia
Symposia will be selected, covering basic, clinical, interface and conceptual topics of Biological Psychiatry. The Symposia will be organised and chaired by the experts whose proposals will be accepted by the International Scientific Programme Committee.

Discuss with the Expert Sessions
In these highly interactive Sessions, experts will discuss cases with the audience. Delegates are expected to take an active part in these discussions. One such 90-minute Session is scheduled for the mid-day slot of each Congress day.

Debates
Debates will be intended to offer a platform for a lively, yet balanced discussion on controversial issues. A moderator (chairperson) and two speakers (one proponent and one opponent) will state their opinions on different subjects.

Workshops
Workshops are 90-minute sessions with an educational focus. They center on the WFSBP Treatment Guidelines and include brief presentations by individual panel members, followed by lively and informative discussion. This session type provides for substantial audience participation and should be highly interactive. Handouts will be available for attending delegates.

Free Communications
Authors will be invited to submit abstracts on their latest research findings. All submitted abstracts will be reviewed and the best will be selected to allocate Free Communications Sessions.

Young Scientists Award Sessions
These Sessions are dedicated to the research findings of talented scientists up to 40 years of age. These 90-minute Sessions take place daily from 08:00 – 09:30 h. They comprise five 10-minute presentations, each followed by 5 minutes of discussion at the end of the session.by 5 minutes of discussion at the end of the session. An additional Session presents selected posters by young scientists. These posters can be viewed daily,from 29 June to 2 July 2009.

Guided Poster Tours
A whole range of highly interesting papers on new research findings and / or major research efforts are expected to be submitted as posters. As many posters will probably be submitted by young investigators, the Local Organising Committee will arrange Guided Poster Tours to give the authors the opportunity to present these findings and discuss them with the audience.

Industry Sponsored Symposia
These 60 to 90-minute sessions are fully integrated into the congress, but are sessions entirely designed, produced and driven by the pharmaceutical industry by an unrestricted educational grant.

CME Accreditation
The WFSBP 2009 Congress is seeking for accreditation by the European Council for Continuing Education (EACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) credits to physicians. The EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). EACCME credits are recognised Europe-wide and in North America. EACCME credits can be exchanged for their national equivalent by contacting the respective National CME authority. EACCME credits are recognised by the American Medical Association (AMA) towards the Physician’s Recognition Award (AMA).
